Having its roots in the Sufi Mystic music, Qawwali has evolved into a highly complex and yet cherished genre all over the world.
Qawwali is a blend of multiple attributes like historical contexts, study of multicultural philosophy, technicalities of linguistics, forms of poetry, art of Ghazalserai, storytelling, and multi-genre musical expanse. Although the presentation of Qawwali requires a rigorous study and thorough knowledge of all these fields, turning a blind eye towards these technical aspects has not yet prevented the listener from experiencing the ecstatic extravaganza that Qawwali is.
Curated and directed by Nusrat Apoorv, a multilingual expert in classical and contemporary music, and aided by a specially-crafted team, ‘The Art of Qawwali’ makes it a mission statement to revive this centuries-old tradition in its truest form.
